In MP, the contest has become interesting with the entry of a BJP candidate on the Rajya Sabha seat held by Congress. On Monday, Congress candidate Meenakshi Natarajan filed her nomination. After this, BJP candidate Mahesh Kewat also filed his nomination. Late Monday evening, a meeting of Congress MLAs was held at the bungalow of Leader of Opposition Umang Singhar. Fearing cross-voting, all MLAs were asked to prepare for a journey of about 10 days. Today, Tuesday (June 9), the MLAs will depart from Bhopal for Karnataka. According to Congress sources, all MLAs have been told that if they are comfortable going with the party’s MLAs of their own free will, then they should go. There is no pressure on anyone that they must go. Some MLAs have cited personal and family reasons. However, the names of which MLAs have agreed or disagreed to go yet have not been revealed. MLAs have been asked to reach Bhopal Airport by 12 PM. Some MLAs are going with their families. MLA Jandel said – Arrange a Char Dham pilgrimage In a meeting held late Monday evening at the bungalow of Leader of Opposition Umang Singhar, Sheopur MLA Babu Jandel said – “Normally, we are busy day and night in our constituency. Now, if we are going for ten days, we should be taken on a Char Dham pilgrimage.” Maharashtra-Telangana State Presidents are also in Bhopal On Monday, Maharashtra Congress President Harshvardhan Vasantrao Sapkal and Telangana PCC Chief Bomma Mahesh Kumar Goud arrived in Bhopal to file Meenakshi Natarajan’s nomination. Both held meetings with different leaders. Late in the evening, they also attended dinner at the residence of Leader of Opposition Umang Singhar. Singhar said – The party trusts its MLAs Leader of Opposition Umang Singhar said – The decision has already been made. Now, the Congress party is preparing on how MLAs will vote and how the mock poll will be conducted. Every party keeps its MLAs secure, and the Congress party also trusts its MLAs. On this pretext, the MLAs will also get a trip. You will know where they will be taken tomorrow (Tuesday). Churhat MLA and former Leader of Opposition Ajay Singh said – Everything is fine. All good, no one asked anything, what suggestions should we give. I also have some BJP MLAs in contact. Let’s see whose contact is stronger. Chief Whip said – We are all one, standing strong Chief Whip of the Congress Legislature Party, Sohan Valmiki, said – What was decided in the PCC was that we are all one and stand strong with the Congress. BJP has tried to spoil the democratic system, and Congress will give a strong answer to that. Regarding shifting MLAs to another state, Sohan Valmiki said- Right now everyone is united, if such a situation ever arises, it will be informed. This will not be a hidden game; whatever happens will be in the open. All our MLAs are united, and our resolve is to ensure Meenakshi Natarajan’s victory. It is the order of the Delhi High Command that everyone must stay united. No one will deviate from the party line; all MLAs are united. There is no question of disagreement. Congress cautious after 2020 events Congress is exercising caution in view of the political developments of 2020. At that time, after the resignation of several MLAs led by Jyotiraditya Scindia, the then Kamal Nath government fell into a minority and the government collapsed. Currently, Scindia is a minister in the central NDA government. Currently, Congress has 64 MLAs in the Madhya Pradesh Assembly. However, after the Supreme Court’s order, one MLA is not eligible to vote. Meanwhile, MLA Nirmala Sapre from Sagar has been sharing public platforms with BJP leaders for the past few months and has also been absent from Congress legislative party meetings. To win the third seat, the BJP still needs eight additional votes to reach the figure of 58 votes. This situation will remain even if it gets the support of Nirmala Sapre and Bharat Adivasi Party (BAP) MLA Kamlesh Dodiyar. On Monday, Nirmala Sapre was also seen near the Chief Minister’s residence. Candidate needs 58 first preference votes The 230-member Madhya Pradesh Assembly is the electoral college for the Rajya Sabha elections. Currently, the effective strength of the assembly is 229. In such a situation, a candidate will need 58 first preference votes to reach the Rajya Sabha. BJP has 164 MLAs. The victory of the party’s two candidates – National General Secretary Tarun Chugh and State General Secretary Rajneesh Agrawal – is considered almost certain, as BJP has the necessary 116 votes for both. Interesting contest between the BJP and the Congress for the third seat The contest for the third seat became interesting when BJP fielded Mahesh Kewat, chairman of the Madhya Pradesh Fisheries Welfare Board, as its third candidate on Monday. Tarun Chugh and Rajneesh Agrawal filed their nominations on Saturday, while Mahesh Kewat filed his papers on the last day of nominations. According to party sources, BJP took the final decision on Mahesh Kewat’s name after three days of deliberation and discussion with the central leadership. Meanwhile, Congress has fielded former MP Meenakshi Natarajan as its candidate. Mahesh Kewat’s entry into the fray has certainly made the contest interesting, but Congress is still confident that Meenakshi Natarajan will win.
