The ‘viral girl’ from Khargone has filed a joint petition in the Indore bench of the Madhya Pradesh High Court along with her husband to prove that she is an adult. The petition claims that fake changes were made in the government birth certificate to categorise their marriage as a crime and portray her as a minor. The plea states that the original birth certificate was removed from the government portal without notice or legal procedure. In its place, an allegedly incorrect date of birth was entered. The petitioners have demanded restoration of the original birth certificate and an independent investigation into tampering with government records. Meeting happened during film shooting According to the petition, the viral girl met a young man during a film shoot in Kerala. Gradually, the two grew close and got married in March 2026. The girl, a resident of Khargone district, had come into the limelight last year after videos and photographs of her went viral on social media. National Scheduled Tribe Commission had raised objections The matter turned controversial when the National Commission for Scheduled Tribes objected to the marriage. The Commission claimed that the viral girl was 16 years old at the time of marriage and fake documents had been used for the wedding. Following this, Khargone police registered a case against the girl’s husband under the POCSO Act. However, on April 20, 2026, the Kerala High Court stayed the arrest of the man. Accusation of spoiling atmosphere by calling it ‘Love Jihad’ The petition alleges that the girl’s father and some others carried out inflammatory and malicious campaigns against her husband on social media. It claimed that attempts were made to give a communal colour to the personal marriage by linking it with sensitive terms like ‘Love Jihad’ in order to disturb the social atmosphere. The petitioners said theirs is a personal and legal marriage, but it is being presented misleadingly on social media. Lawyer says- Fake alterations made in records The viral girl’s lawyer alleged that her father got fake changes made in government records and the birth certificate to oppose the marriage. The original document was allegedly removed from the government portal and a new record was created to legally portray her as a minor. According to the lawyer, the viral girl was an adult at the time of marriage. The couple had married in Kerala with mutual consent. He said the POCSO case against the husband was also registered on the basis of fake documents, and the Kerala High Court had already stayed the arrest. Demand for Independent Investigation The petition has demanded restoration of the original birth certificate. It has also sought an independent inquiry and action against those who allegedly removed documents from the government portal without following legal procedure. The matter may come up for hearing soon before the Indore bench of the High Court.
