A vulture that flew from Bhopal, Madhya Pradesh, reached Uzbekistan in 24 days. The vulture crossed Pakistan and Afghanistan, covering a distance of about 3 thousand kilometers. The forest department monitored it with GPS. According to Van Vihar, the Cinereous vulture was rescued on December 19, 2025, from the Sironj area of Vidisha district. This rare vulture, found in an injured and weak state, was treated at Van Vihar National Park. Experts at the Vulture Conservation Breeding Center (VCBC) Kerwa treated the vulture. After recovering, Chief Minister Dr. Mohan Yadav released it into its natural habitat at Halali Dam in Raisen district on February 23 this year. After being released, the vulture remained in the Halali Dam area for about a month, readapting itself to the natural environment. Tracked with GPS With the cooperation of WWF India and BNHS, Van Vihar started GPS tracking of this vulture. Through this, its activities and migration are being scientifically monitored. According to information received from tracking, this vulture began its long international journey from Halali Dam on April 10. Passing through Rajasthan, it crossed the borders of Pakistan and Afghanistan and reached Uzbekistan on May 4. During this period, it covered a distance of more than 3000 kilometres. A vulture reached Pakistan Earlier in April, a vulture that flew from Bhopal reached Pakistan. The vulture was found in Pakistan’s Khanewal district via Rajasthan. Van Vihar National Park came to know about this when the GPS signal attached to the vulture was not received. The vulture was released from Halali Dam near Bhopal on March 30. This is a scientifically selected site for releasing vultures into their habitats. After its release, this vulture crossed international borders via Rajasthan and reached Pakistan by April 6. When its movement signal was not received on April 7, WWF-India was immediately informed. Following this, WWF-India established contact with its counterpart organisation, WWF-Pakistan. The Pakistan Forest Department and WWF-Pakistan successfully recovered this vulture from local residents in Khanewal district.
