Five members of a family from Sheopur were burnt alive after their car caught fire on the Delhi–Mumbai Expressway in Alwar, Rajasthan, late Wednesday night. They were travelling from Delhi to Kota when flames suddenly erupted from the engine of the Ertiga. Within seconds, the vehicle was engulfed in fire. The passengers could not get out and were burnt alive. The accident took place near pillar 115/300 in Laxmangarh. After the fire was extinguished, only bones were found inside the car. The driver had jumped out immediately after the fire started, but he too did not survive. See 4 pictures related to the accident. Family was returning from Vaishno Devi pilgrimage The deceased family was returning from the Vaishno Devi temple in Jammu and Kashmir. They had gone there after the recovery of Santosh’s mother-in-law Parvati, to fulfil a vow. The deceased include Parvati (55), Santosh (35), his wife Shashi (30), and daughter Sakshi (9). All were residents of Chainpura village in Sheopur. In the incident, driver Vinod Kumar Mehar had jumped out of the vehicle through the window. However, he had suffered around 80% burns. He was first taken to Pinan Community Health Centre and then referred to Jaipur in critical condition. He also died during treatment. It took around 15 minutes to extinguish the fire Alwar ASP Priyanka Raghuwanshi said that around 11:15 pm, Laxmangarh police received information about the car fire. At around 11:30 pm, the fire brigade reached the spot. It took about 15 minutes to control the fire. It is suspected that the fire spread rapidly due to CNG. Officers console the bereaved family The relatives of the deceased have left for Alwar to collect the bodies. Meanwhile, administrative officials visited the victims’ home in Sheopur. Tehsildar Manisha Mishra met the family and consoled them. According to Santosh’s brother-in-law, the family had gone to fulfil their vow after Parvati recovered from illness.
