The ongoing domestic dispute between Congress leader Mahendra Singh Chauhan and his banker wife Shikha Singh has intensified, with both sides leveling serious accusations against each other. The conflict has now taken a public turn. Chauhan claims threat to life; wife refutes allegation Speaking with Dainik Bhaskar, Shikha Singh revealed that Chauhan filed a complaint alleging a threat to his life from his wife and their minor son. Refuting the claim, she questioned its validity, stating that she is 20 years younger than her husband and their son is a minor. “How can he possibly be under threat from us?” she said. Dowry harassment case filed earlier Two months ago, Shikha filed a police complaint against Chauhan, accusing him of dowry harassment and physical assault. Allegation: Marriage with IAS officer was called off Shikha alleged that about 20 years ago, Chauhan got her arranged marriage with an IAS officer called off and later married her. She claimed she has faced continuous mental harassment since then.
She added that her father had warned her against this decision. “He said I might go from a government bungalow to the streets. I now feel it was the biggest mistake of my life,” she said. Dispute over parental property Shikha accused Chauhan of pressuring her to claim a share in her parental property, which she said has been a major reason behind their ongoing conflict.
“My family is financially well-off, but I do not want to interfere in their matters,” she said. Letter to Congress leadership seeking action Shikha wrote to Congress state in-charge Harish Chaudhary, demanding action against Chauhan. She termed his complaint of threat to life as a “disgusting act” and accused him of ruining her life. She also urged the party to expel him. Copies of the letter were sent to Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge, MPs Priyanka Gandhi and Rahul Gandhi, and state president Jitu Patwari. Political ambitions blamed for family rift Shikha stated that Chauhan’s political ambitions have pushed their family life to the brink, alleging that his demands continue to rise. She objected to being denied access to the government-allotted house, questioning how a wife could be evicted from such a residence.
She alleged that Chauhan has locked the house, preventing her from retrieving documents, jewellery, and other belongings. She has filed a police complaint regarding this. Alleged threat to safety Shikha claimed that Chauhan warned her she could be attacked while travelling alone to the bank. She described this as a serious threat and expressed concern for her safety. Political ambition became the cause of the dispute Shikha also mentioned in the letter that due to Mahendra Singh’s political ambitions, their family life is on the verge of ruin. His baseless demands are continuously increasing. He has asked State President Jitu Patwari why there is such a delay in taking action against Chauhan? Shikha has also sent a copy of this letter to Congress National President Mallikarjun Kharge, MP Priyanka Gandhi and Rahul Gandhi. Objection regarding government house Shikha said that this house was allotted to Chauhan by the government. How can a person evict his wife from a government house? Chauhan maintains silence Chauhan has earlier accused his wife of blackmail. He has stated that the matter is sub judice and declined to comment further. His associates claim the allegations against him are baseless and that he wants to avoid a media trial. Case ongoing With legal proceedings underway and both sides maintaining their positions, the case continues to attract attention.
