ujjain-university-eviction-row-deepens:bjp-mla-among-6-served-notices;-says-will-vacate-bungalow-after-dues-settled;-flags-cm-residence

A dispute has erupted at Samrat Vikramaditya University in Ujjain after the administration began action to remove illegal occupation from government residences. The university has issued notices to six people, including BJP MLA Dr. Chintamani Malviya from Alot, asking them to vacate official housing. Following the notices, the MLA raised questions regarding Chief Minister Dr. Mohan Yadav’s residence. In a recent Executive Council meeting of the university, it was decided that individuals with no official connection to the university would be asked to vacate residential quarters. According to information, around six are under occupation by outsiders, including a BJP MLA, former Additional SP, assistant professors, lecturers, and others. Due to these illegal occupations, university staff and officials are unable to get accommodation. More than 50 employees have already applied for housing. The administration is now preparing to evict those occupying quarters for years. MLA says- Will vacate the residence after accounts are settled Alot MLA Dr. Chintamani Malviya was allotted an E-4 category residence in 2009, with a monthly rent of ₹1,620. He deposited ₹9.09 lakh in October 2023 before the assembly elections, but has not paid rent since then. After receiving the notice, he said there is also a moral question, stating that the Chief Minister has taken over the Vice-Chancellor’s bungalow, which is a landmark and historical building. He added that they are following the same precedent. He further said that there are pending financial settlements with the university. He claimed he deposited around ₹10 lakh before the elections and that his promotion due in 2010 was delayed for four years, which affected payments. He added that he has repeatedly requested settlement of accounts and will vacate the residence once dues are cleared. He also warned that if a detailed inquiry is conducted, the matter could become prolonged. Accommodations will be reserved only for employees Vice-Chancellor Arpan Bhardwaj stated that as per the Executive Council decision, university quarters are reserved only for employees. Those issued notices have been given one month to vacate. He said many employees are living in dilapidated buildings, while several quarters are occupied by outsiders. Once vacated, the houses will be allotted to staff. The university also plans to demolish 21 unsafe buildings. CM gets Vice Chancellor’s bungalow After becoming Chief Minister, Dr. Mohan Yadav was allotted the Vice-Chancellor’s bungalow in Ujjain on Dewas Road, which was renovated and completed about one and a half years ago. The Chief Minister now stays there during his Ujjain visits. The MLA’s remarks have linked this issue with the university’s eviction notices, further intensifying the controversy.
