CSK clarify MS Dhoni ownership rumours:Thala reportedly owns shares worth ₹3 crore; his net worth stands at ₹1,200 crore

Mahendra Singh Dhoni has reportedly shown interest in buying a stake in the Chennai Super Kings (CSK) franchise. However, a senior CSK official has denied that the franchise discussed any such proposal with Dhoni. Dhoni already owns some shares in CSK. According to information available, the former captain acquired more than one lakh shares when they were available for purchase. However, his holding is only a small part of the franchise’s overall shareholding. CSK official denies talks with Dhoni on franchise stakeholds A senior CSK functionary denied having any discussion with Dhoni about buying a stake in the franchise. According to the report in Cricbuzz, the senior CSK functionary said: “MS has never asked us about it. We never discussed the matter. We also don’t have any information about him having discussed this with Mr N Srinivasan either. CSK is an unlisted company, which means its shares are not traded on the open market. However, shares can still be acquired privately through off-market transactions. Dhoni’s franchise share and net worth More than 30 crore outstanding shares are held by the public, accounting for close to 40% of the franchise’s total share capital. Dhoni’s one lakh-plus shares, therefore, form only a small part of the public shareholding. The Srinivasan family holds a controlling stake of more than 55% in the franchise. Based on the current valuation of IPL franchises, Dhoni’s stake could be worth around ₹2.6-3 crore. However, this would still be a relatively small amount compared with his earnings from international cricket, the IPL and endorsements. Dhoni’s estimated net worth is around ₹1,200 crore. Thala to decide on next CSK coach Dhoni continues to remain an influential figure at CSK despite giving up the captaincy and not playing a single match last season. The franchise is now waiting for his return before making important decisions, especially regarding the appointment of the new head coach. However, As per the Indian Express’ report, the suspense over the new head coach will likely end in the upcoming 1 or 2 weeks. Badani has taken the lead among potential candidates due to his solid IPL coaching experience and strong track record across global T20 leagues. Dhoni is currently believed to be in the US and is expected to return around 22 September. The CSK management is expected to meet around that time to discuss the next coach, followed by transfers and trades. CSK officials have maintained that they are yet to finalise a coach. However, according to the Cricuzz report, souce claim that the franchise has zeroed in on an overseas candidate who is also reportedly in talks with another IPL team.
