The Bhartiya Janata Party (BJP) state wing is organising a large-scale protest rally in Bhopal today after the Women’s Reservation Bill failed to pass in the Lok Sabha on April 17. The 131st Constitutional Amendment Bill proposed increasing Lok Sabha seats from 543 to 816 and providing 33% reservation for women. The bill received 298 votes in favor and 230 against, falling short of the required 352 votes needed for passage. Rally at MVM college ground The “Nari Aakrosh Rally” will begin at 11 am at the MVM College Ground. The BJP-organized event will be attended by Chief Minister Dr. Mohan Yadav, state BJP president Hemant Khandelwal, and several women ministers. The party claims that around 30,000 women will participate in the rally. Minister targets Congress Women and Child Development Minister Nirmala Bhuria accused the Congress of blocking women’s progress. She said there was a time when mothers told their daughters to remain confined to household chores, but now they aspire for their daughters to become doctors, engineers, IAS and IPS officers. She added that women today can also enter Parliament and state assemblies to make laws, but alleged that Congress and its allies have obstructed this progress, calling it a betrayal of future generations.
