A wedding celebration in Naharcola village under Shivpur police station limits in Narmadapuram district turned violent late Sunday night, resulting in one death and injuries to six people. The situation escalated further when a police team that reached the spot around 1 am to arrest the accused was also attacked. A constable sustained nine stab wounds and was seriously injured. His condition is now reported to be stable. Police have registered two cases—murder and attempt to murder—and formed teams to arrest the accused. Argument over food invitation triggers attack According to police, a wedding ceremony for Ramnarayan’s nephew was underway when Amar Singh Kir, allegedly under the influence of alcohol, arrived at the venue. Ramnarayan invited him to join the meal, but Amar reportedly took offence and replied angrily, saying he was not hungry for food. Due to the crowd, locals intervened and sent him back home. However, he returned shortly after with a stick, accompanied by his son Lokesh Kir, who was carrying a knife. They began arguing and soon turned violent. One dead, six injured in stabbing As the dispute intensified, the groom’s uncle Harinarayan tried to intervene, but Lokesh allegedly attacked him with a knife. Others who stepped in to stop the fight—including Daulat Kir, Ramnarayan Kir, Jaynarayan Kir, and a woman named Kshama Kir—were also attacked. Daulat Kir suffered severe injuries and died, while Ramnarayan and Jaynarayan sustained serious injuries. All the injured were referred to the district hospital in Narmadapuram. Police team attacked during arrest attempt Upon receiving information, a police team led by Station House Officer K.N. Rajak, along with Head Constable Sunil and constables Om Jat and Deepak, reached the village around 1 am. SHO Rajak said the accused tried to flee on seeing the police. Constable Om Jat chased and caught one of them, but was attacked with a knife. The accused allegedly stabbed Om Jat multiple times in the stomach, hands, and legs before escaping. By the time other officers reached, the accused had fled. The injured constable was bleeding profusely and was first taken to Seoni Malwa and later referred to Narmadapuram. Senior officials rush to spot Superintendent of Police Sai Krishna S. Thota, along with senior officers, reached the scene and later visited the hospital to assess the situation. SP Thota confirmed that the constable sustained injuries to the stomach, hands, and legs but is currently stable. Cases registered, search underway Police have registered two cases against the accused—murder and attempt to murder. Search teams have been formed, and efforts are underway to arrest the father-son duo involved in the attack.
