A case of alleged hurt to religious sentiments has been reported from Jabalpur, where a youth is accused of urinating near a Shivling installed on a platform in Singra Mohalla under the Garha police station area. The incident led to tension in the locality. According to police, the incident occurred around midnight between Monday and Tuesday. Following a complaint by local residents, a case was registered against Mohammad Rizwan alias Bhura, a resident of Kazinagar, under Sections 196 and 298 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita. The accused was later arrested. Locals claim platform is ancient After the incident, members of the Vishwa Hindu Parishad, Bajrang Dal, along with local residents, carried out purification rituals at the site. The platform was washed with water brought from the Narmada and Ganga rivers, smeared with cow dung, and the Shivling was ritually reconsecrated by a priest. Local resident Rajkumar said the platform is ancient and attracts a large number of devotees, especially during religious festivals. Demand for tighter security Former councillor Sanjay Tiwari said the act near the religious site had deeply hurt the sentiments of people in the area. With religious events such as Mahashivratri and the Sawan Yatra approaching, residents have demanded that the administration strengthen security arrangements in the locality. Police confirm arrest Garha CSP Ashish Jain said a case was registered based on complaints from local residents and the accused has been arrested. He added that the accused is currently being interrogated.
