With the upcoming Simhastha and festive season expected to draw large crowds, the Ujjain police administration has stepped up preparations to streamline traffic management across the city. Nearly 400 police personnel will be deployed to ensure smooth and safe movement of vehicles and devotees. According to police officials, around 250 additional personnel have been allotted to Ujjain for Simhastha-related training and traffic management. Combined with nearly 150 officers and personnel already stationed in the city, the total strength assigned to traffic duties will now rise to about 400. To improve traffic management, the city has been divided into eight zones. Police officers and personnel have been assigned to each zone, while additional forces will be deployed at key intersections, busy roads and high-footfall areas to respond swiftly to congestion and maintain order. Personnel brought in from outside Ujjain are being familiarised with the city’s geography, major routes, diversion plans and traffic arrangements. They are also being briefed on areas that witness the heaviest crowd movement and the methods required for effective traffic regulation. Police will place special emphasis on strict enforcement of traffic rules. At intersections equipped with traffic signals, motorists will be encouraged to stop at red lights and proceed only when the signal turns green. Action will also be taken against violators. The number of devotees visiting Ujjain has risen sharply since the development of Mahakal Lok, posing a significant challenge for traffic management. Police authorities said they are focusing on addressing this challenge and ensuring uninterrupted traffic flow during the busy season.
