A leopard that had caused fear in Indore’s Sanawadia area has been rescued by the Forest Department after sustained efforts spanning five days. The rescue operation concluded successfully late Friday night, bringing relief to local residents. The Forest Department had intensified monitoring in the area after repeated complaints of livestock attacks. Officials said the leopard, a female, had preyed on at least eight goats in recent days, prompting concern among people living in the locality. Five days of monitoring and trapping Following reports of leopard movement, the Forest Department installed a trap cage and maintained round-the-clock surveillance in Sanawadia. After continuous efforts for nearly five days, the rescue team succeeded in safely securing the animal late Friday night, without causing any harm. Health examination at Indore Zoo After the rescue, the leopard was taken to the Indore Zoo for a medical examination. Veterinarians carried out detailed health checks and found the animal to be healthy and free from injuries. Forest officials said that after completing all required formalities and observations, the leopard will be released back into its natural forest habitat. Providing details of the operation, Dr Uttam Yadav said complaints regarding the leopard had been received for about a week. Initial information indicated damage to livestock and hunting of animals, but there has been no loss of human life or injury. The rescued leopard is a female and is physically fit he said, adding that veterinarians have advised its early release into a wild area. Relief for residents With the successful rescue, residents of Sanawadia expressed relief after several days of anxiety. Forest Department officials have urged people living near forested areas to remain cautious and immediately inform authorities about wildlife movement to ensure timely action and safety for both humans and animals.
