Dhar witnessed a peaceful celebration of the Basant Panchami festival on Friday, with Puja and rituals continuing at the Bhojshala while the Muslim community offered Namaz simultaneously at the Kamal Maula mosque. The event marked the fourth Friday of Basant Panchami in 24 years. Following the successful festival, police personnel celebrated on Saturday by dancing to a DJ at the DRP Line Sports Complex in Dhar. A video of the celebration has circulated widely on social media. Religious songs were also played during the event, and several people recorded the police dancing on their mobile phones. The festival posed a significant challenge for the administration, as per the Supreme Court’s order, both Puja and Namaz had to be conducted at the Bhojshala. Considering this, thousands of police officers were deployed across the city to maintain peace. The administration’s efforts ensured that the sensitive event concluded without any untoward incidents. In accordance with the Supreme Court directive, separate arrangements were made for the Hindu and Muslim communities. The Hindu community performed uninterrupted worship of Goddess Vagdevi from sunrise to sunset in the sanctum, while 17 members of the Muslim community offered Jumma prayers in the northern part of the protected Bhojshala complex. The Hindu community had resolved to conduct an uninterrupted pooja this year, and local traders supported the initiative by keeping their shops closed. Puja began at 7:24 am with the first offering in the yagna and continued until sunset. Devotees started arriving at the Bhojshala from early morning.
