A speeding dumper ran over a motorcycle in Gwalior, killing a husband, wife and their 18-year-old daughter on the spot. The tragic accident occurred on Thursday afternoon in the Ratwai–Bijoli police station area. The family had travelled from Jalaun district in Uttar Pradesh so that their daughter could appear for the JEE (Main) entrance examination. Victims identified According to Behat SDOP Manish Yadav, the deceased have been identified as Chandrapal Jatav (45), a farmer, his wife Rajshri Jatav (40), and their daughter Arpita Jatav (18). Arpita was scheduled to appear for the JEE (Main) exam on Thursday, with her examination centre at BBM College in Ratwai, Bijoli. Missed the centre, hit while returning Police said Chandrapal and Rajshri were taking their daughter to the exam centre on a motorcycle borrowed from constable Pradeep, posted at Girwai police station. In a hurry, they lost their way and overshot the examination centre by about 100 metres. After asking a passerby for directions, the family turned back. When they were around 100 metres from the police station, a speeding dumper, allegedly being driven rashly, rammed into their motorcycle from behind. The impact threw all three onto the road, and they were crushed under the dumper, leading to their instantaneous death. Scene left police shocked Police personnel who reached the spot were stunned by the horrific scene, with bodies and blood scattered across the road. Even the documents kept in the family’s bag were soaked in blood. The police secured the area and shifted the bodies under supervision to the post-mortem house. Driver flees, dumper seized After the accident, the dumper driver abandoned the vehicle and fled the scene. The police seized the dumper, which was reportedly carrying khaka (construction material). A search has been launched to trace the absconding driver. Family left with two sons Chandrapal’s family consisted of his wife, daughter, and two sons—Satyam and Bittu. Following the deaths of the parents and sister, only the two sons remain. On receiving news of the tragedy, they left immediately for Gwalior. Accident-prone stretch raises concerns The road has witnessed several fatal accidents in recent years. A few years ago, a dumper collision in the Purani Chhawani police station area claimed the lives of 13 women and a young man. Recently, in Bahodapur, a dumper carrying murum for road construction overturned in a colony, crushing an elderly man sitting outside his house. The recurring incidents have once again raised serious concerns over traffic safety and the unchecked movement of heavy vehicles in the area.
