A college student in Gwalior was allegedly assaulted by miscreants in the middle of a busy road, but instead of receiving prompt help, she and her family were made to run from one police station to another, with no FIR registered and no medical examination conducted. Assault on Sun Valley Road The incident took place around 12:30 pm on Wednesday on Sun Valley Road, which falls under the jurisdiction of the University Police Station. The victim, 21-year-old Mayuri Gupta, a resident of Flower City, was on her scooter heading to attend stenography coaching in MLB Colony. According to the complaint, a group of unidentified youths on a motorcycle rammed into her scooter, causing her to fall on the road and sustain injuries. When Mayuri protested, the youths allegedly abused her and then assaulted her with kicks and punches in full public view. Attackers flee as crowd gathers As people began gathering at the spot, the attackers fled. Injured and shaken, Mayuri somehow managed to reach home and narrated the incident to her mother, Rajni Gupta. Hospital refuses treatment, sends victim to police Mayuri’s mother, along with neighbors, took her to a hospital for treatment. However, hospital staff reportedly refused to provide medical care, stating that a police report was mandatory before treatment. They directed the family to the Padav Police Station. Police pass the buck At Padav Police Station, police personnel claimed the incident did not fall under their jurisdiction and advised the family to go to Sironj Police Station and Hajira Civil Hospital. When the victim and her mother reached Sironj Police Station, they were again told that the place of occurrence lay outside that station’s jurisdiction and were redirected to the University Police Station. No FIR, no medical examination Even after reaching the University Police Station, police allegedly avoided taking responsibility, saying they would “look into the matter.” Shockingly, during this entire ordeal, none of the police stations ensured a medical examination of the injured student. Allegations against police The victim has alleged that Gwalior police are deliberately avoiding action in the case. Despite visible injuries and a serious allegation of assault in a public place, no FIR has been registered so far. The incident has raised serious questions about police accountability and the treatment of victims, especially women, who seek help after violent crimes.
