shubman-gill-wants-15-day-camps-before-every-test-series:bcci-willing-to-give-india-captain-‘bigger-say’-in-future-planning-–-report

India’s Test and ODI captain Shubman Gill will be allowed a bigger role by BCCI in planning the road ahead, according to the latest reports. The Men in Blue failed to qualify for the World Test Championship (WTC) 2025 final, and Gill has already set his sights on the WTC 2027 final. To ensure that the Indian team can remain in contention to win the coveted title, Gill has reportedly told the BCCI to make sure that there are 15-day camps held prior to every Test assignment. This way, the team can be better prepared for the red-ball games. The development comes after the Indian team suffered a whitewash at home against South Africa, which was the second whitewash at home in the span of one year after New Zealand did the same in 2024. The apex board is also ready to give Gill a bigger say in planning since his appointment as Test and ODI captain. Following the retirement of Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli, Gill was seen as the heir apparent, and he guided India to a thrilling 2-2 draw against England in his first assignment as Test skipper. After England, Gill oversaw the series win at home against the West Indies, but the team received a reality check after the defending World Test Championship (WTC) winners, South Africa, blanked India 2-0. India’s series against South Africa began just four days after the conclusion of the five-match T200I series against Australia. There could be instances wherein head coach Gautam Gambhir may be busy with white-ball assignments, thus the BCCI could be willing to utilise the services of Centre of Excellence cricket head VVS Laxman. The Indian cricket team is currently not scheduled to play any Test matches till July 2026, and it will be interesting to see how the board and the players will react to the development. Gill and his Test team are due to play a two-match Test series against Sri Lanka before facing off against New Zealand and Australia.
