In a hit-and-run incident, a Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader allegedly rammed his car into five people sitting outside their home warming themselves by a bonfire in Porsa town of Morena district on Friday night. Two of the victims later died from their injuries. Two of the injured victims later succumbed to their injuries late at night while undergoing treatment in Gwalior. Two victims die, three still hospitalised The deceased have been identified as: Both were critically injured in the accident and were referred to Gwalior, where doctors declared them dead during treatment. Their bodies will be brought back to Porsa on Saturday afternoon after post-mortem, where the final rites will be performed. Accused identified as BJP youth wing leader According to the eyewitnesses, the car was travelling from Porsa towards Jotai at a high speed. The vehicle was being driven by Dipendra Bhadoria, the Municipal Mandal President of BJP Yuva Morcha. According to locals, Bhadoria was under the influence of alcohol at the time of the incident. Due to overspeeding and intoxication, he reportedly lost control of the vehicle and rammed into the group sitting near the fire. Chaos after the accident, accused beaten by crowd Following the incident, chaos erupted at the scene. Angry locals caught hold of the accused and assaulted him before handing him over to the police. However, within a short time, the accused escaped from police custody, triggering further outrage. Highway blocked, police accused of aiding escape Enraged residents blocked the highway for nearly 20 minutes, accusing the police of deliberately allowing the BJP leader to flee. Protesters demanded immediate arrest of the accused and strict action against the officers responsible for the lapse.
