More than 4.40 lakh voters are set to be deleted from Bhopal’s electoral roll following the completion of the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) exercise. The picture of these voters became clear on Wednesday after verification revealed that these voters were either deceased, absent from their registered addresses, permanently shifted elsewhere, or listed as duplicate voters. Over 33,000 voters found deceased According to officials, over 33,000 voters identified during the SIR have already passed away. A significant number of others were found missing from their addresses or permanently relocated. Meanwhile, 1.21 lakh voters classified under ‘No Mapping’ will be issued notices and given 50 days to submit valid documents to prove their eligibility. Digitalisation of voter data completed The Election Administration has completed the digitalisation of SIR data in Bhopal. These voters constitute 5.69 percent of the total electorate. District authorities will attempt to trace their records within 50 days. If verification fails, their names will be deleted from the voter list. Extensive ground verification conducted The verification of ASDR voters—those classified as Absent, Shifted, Dead, Repeated and Others—was carried out through a large-scale drive. From the district collector to college principals, officials participated in a two-day cross-checking process. Collector Kaushalendra Vikram Singh personally verified 92 voters. A total of 551 officers, Booth Level Officers (BLOs), and supervisors were deployed. Each was assigned specific polling booths and visited voters’ homes on December 15 and 16, after which consolidated data was released. Assembly-wise status: Govindpura tops, Berasia lowest Among Bhopal’s seven assembly constituencies, the highest and lowest discrepancies were reported as follows: Narela: Huzur: Bhopal Central: 67,199 voters in all four categories Bhopal South-West: 63,662 voters Bhopal North: 51,417 voters Over 4.42 lakh voters marked for deletion Combining ASDR and No Mapping categories, officials identified more than 4.42 lakh voters for removal. Election authorities have initiated the deletion process in accordance with guidelines. Voters under the ‘No Mapping’ category will receive notices and a final opportunity to prove their eligibility before their names are struck off the rolls.
