The Madhya Pradesh Legislative Assembly will hold a special one-day session on 17 December to mark 75 years since the Assembly’s first sitting, held on the same date in the year 1956. The decision was finalised after an agreement between Assembly Speaker Narendra Singh Tomar and Chief Minister Dr. Mohan Yadav. The session will focus on discussions related to the development of Madhya Pradesh. Focus on a developed and self-reliant Madhya Pradesh This special sitting will be the eighth session of the 16th Assembly and will begin at 11 AM. The Assembly Secretariat has issued the official notification after approval from the Governor. During the one-day session, members will deliberate on how to transform Madhya Pradesh into a developed, self-reliant and prosperous state. 75 years since the first assembly sitting The first-ever session of the Madhya Pradesh Assembly began on 17 December 1956, following the formation of the Assembly. To commemorate the completion of 75 years of that historic meeting, the Secretariat has scheduled a sitting on the same date this year. Earlier, a four-day Winter Session of the Assembly was held from 1 to 5 December. Previous special sessions The Assembly has convened special sessions several times in the past. During the COVID-19 period, a special session was called after Shivraj Singh Chouhan assumed office as Chief Minister in 2020. Prior to that, special sessions had also been held during the tenure of former Speaker Ishwardas Rohani, along with several other occasions.
