Chief Minister Dr Mohan Yadav has taken strict action against IAS officer Santosh Kumar Verma, whose remarks on ‘Brahmin daughters’ sparked controversy recently. He has ordered that a proposal be sent to the Central Government to dismiss Verma from the IAS. A chargesheet will also be issued against him. The officer has been removed from the Agriculture Department and attached to the GAD pool, where he will have no department or work. Decision taken in late-night meeting The decision was made during a late-night meeting at the Chief Minister’s Office. After the meeting, instructions were issued to move forward with the dismissal proposal and disciplinary action. Why the Government seeks his dismissal The General Administration Department (GAD) submitted a report against Verma.According to the report: A departmental inquiry is also in its final stage. It concerns allegations that Verma obtained an integrity certificate using forged documents. The Government has found his reply to these charges unsatisfactory. The Chief Minister said that keeping him in the IAS is “against discipline and law and order”. Recent controversial statements Verma recently made two statements that triggered strong public anger. Many people from the Brahmin community staged protests and demanded action. Effigies of Verma were burnt in several places. Despite this, no official action was taken earlier, which led to plans for larger protests. 1. Comment on Brahmin daughters At an AJAKS conference, Verma said:“Until a Brahmin donates his daughter to my son, reservation should continue.” 2. Allegations against the High Court In another video, he accused the High Court of blocking ST category candidates from becoming Civil Judges.He claimed that cut-off marks were kept low on purpose. Protests in Bhopal Protests also took place in Bhopal. People from the Brahmin community expressed anger over Verma’s remarks. Members of several communities and political parties, including Congress and the BJP, supported the demand for action. Plan to gherao the CM House on 14 December Due to the lack of action earlier, Brahmin organisations had planned to gherao the Chief Minister’s House on 14 December. Groups from across the state and from outside Madhya Pradesh were preparing to gather in Bhopal in large numbers. They said protests and effigy burnings were happening everywhere, but the Government had not acted.
