Panic gripped the Hamidia Hospital complex in Bhopal on Wednesday morning after two partially burnt bodies of newborn babies were found in an old water tank near the mortuary, which was being used by hospital management as a dustbin. The shocking incident came to light after a fire broke out in the garbage early in the morning. Both bodies have been kept in the mortuary, and police are investigating the case from all angles using hospital records, CCTV footage, DNA tests, and other technical evidence. Discovery after extinguishing fire One body burnt up to 90 percent According to the police, the body of one newborn was burnt up to about 90 percent, while the other was partially burnt. Both bodies have been sent for post-mortem after the inquest proceedings. It is being said that a team of five doctors will conduct the post-mortem. Hospital bedsheets found in garbage Plastic bedsheets used in the hospital were also recovered from the garbage. This raises the suspicion that the children might have been wrapped in bedsheets and thrown into the tank. The police have also given instructions to secure DNA samples. Suspicion of being wrapped in plastic and thrown Burnt plastic was found stuck to the bodies of the newborns. From this, it is estimated that they were wrapped in plastic, put in the garbage, and later set on fire. It has not been clarified whether the newborns were burned dead or alive. This will be revealed by the post-mortem report. TI said – old system of throwing garbage According to Kohefiza TI KG Shukla, garbage was regularly thrown by patients and hospital staff into the old tank near the mortuary, and it was often set on fire.
