Four people, including three women, and left 12 others injured in a bus accident in Indore’s Bherughat late Monday night. The bus, traveling from Omkareshwar to Indore, fell into a 20-foot-deep gorge after colliding with a car on the Indore–Ichhapur National Highway near Simrol. Eyewitness account: “I tied a rope to my waist and went down” Eyewitness Sujal Yadav, who was present at the site, described the horrifying scene. “I tied a rope around my waist and climbed down the gorge. The bus windows were shattered. People sitting at the back had been thrown forward. The passengers were piled over each other. Some were alive but later succumbed,” he said. Sujal managed to rescue six passengers despite fracturing his hand and injuring his palms. “When I pulled up one woman, the rope snapped, and she was hurt. My hands were bleeding, but I kept going,” he added. He expressed frustration that while he and one other man were rescuing the trapped passengers, most onlookers were filming videos instead of helping. After the accident, Dainik Bhaskar’s team reached the spot. They spoke to the injured, eyewitnesses, and people present at the scene. Read the report… Driver was drunk, say witnesses Eyewitnesses claimed that the bus driver was intoxicated and had been speeding in an attempt to overtake another vehicle when the crash occurred. A car suddenly appeared ahead, and while trying to swerve away, the bus veered off the road and plunged into the gorge. According to survivor Amit Patil, who is undergoing treatment at Mhow Civil Hospital, the bus had stopped earlier at a roadside dhaba. “The bus staff drank alcohol there. One of them misbehaved with a woman passenger. When she protested, he argued rudely with everyone. After leaving the dhaba, they drove recklessly,” Patil said. Scene of the accident: Bus pulled out overnight Police used cranes to pull the bus out of the gorge during the night. Shoes, clothes, and blood stains were found scattered inside the overturned vehicle. The sight of the wrecked bus parked by the roadside drew several onlookers, even causing brief traffic jams. Locals expressed anger at the administration’s negligence, pointing out that a car had fallen at the same spot just 15 days earlier, yet no warning signs or railings had been installed. Dense bushes also obstruct visibility, making the spot particularly dangerous. Locals call it a death trap Residents and frequent travelers said the Bherughat section of the road is a narrow, single-lane stretch notorious for accidents. “Even a small lapse in concentration can be fatal here,” said commuter Pramod Chauhan. DSP Umakant Choudhary confirmed that the site is marked as a black spot in police records, with seven deaths reported in different accidents over the past three years. Previous incident at same spot Locals said that the car that fell into the gorge 15 days ago is still lying there. Speeding vehicles often lose balance at the sharp turns, especially at night, making the area one of the most dangerous accident zones near Indore.
