A six-year-old girl died, and her parents were hospitalised after all three were bitten by a snake while sleeping at their home in Madhya Pradesh’s Anuppur district in the early hours of Friday. The incident took place in Bhedwatola village, where Bhanu Pratap Singh was asleep on a bed with his wife, Rekha Singh, and their daughter, Madhavi Singh. At around 2:30 am, Bhanu Pratap felt something bite his toes. When he woke up, he spotted a krait snake crawling across the bed. He immediately alerted his family, and his brothers rushed the three to Kotma Community Health Centre. However, Madhavi died on the way, while her parents were admitted for treatment. Parents’ condition critical, anti-snake venom administered On the way to the hospital, Madhavi vomited around 3:30 am. She passed away shortly after. Seeing the critical condition of Bhanu Pratap and Rekha, doctors provided first aid and then referred them to the district hospital. On Friday morning, around 5:30 am, the couple was admitted to the district hospital. Given their serious condition, doctors administered anti-snake venom to them. After examination, it was found that the wife was also bitten by snake Madhavi’s uncle, Arun Singh, said, We only thought Bhanu Pratap was the victim of the snakebite. After the girl vomited and died, we realized that the snake had bitten her too. Upon reaching the hospital, Rekha and her son were medically checked along with Bhanu. This confirmed that Rekha had also been bitten. Currently, the police have kept the girl’s body in the mortuary because the rest of the family members are busy looking after the admitted victims in the hospital. Son studies residing in a hostel Arun Singh said that Bhanu Pratap is a farmer. His son, Vishnu Pratap Singh, is a class 6th student. He is studying while living in the Nigwani hostel. He has not yet been informed about the incident. Relatives say that he will only be called when he is discharged from the hospital and at the time of his daughter’s funeral. Parents don’t know that their daughter is no more Dr. N.P. Majhi said that Bhanu Pratap and Rekha have not been informed about Madhavi’s death. He said that in cases of poison treatment, the patient is advised to remain calm so that their blood vessels function normally. There is a possibility that the patient’s blood pressure might increase upon hearing about the child. This could cause the poison to spread rapidly or lead to other complications. Dr. Majhi said, Bhanu Pratap Singh’s condition is not yet completely normal. A semi-conscious state persists, and his blood pressure is also elevated. If the situation does not improve in some time, he will be referred to Shahdol Medical College for better treatment.
