On Thursday, Chief Minister Dr. Mohan Yadav released crocodiles into the Narmada River in Narmadanagar, Khandwa. It took the crocodiles an hour to enter the water. Bhaskar asked the CM if there would be no danger to the common public from the crocodiles. In response, the CM said, The area where crocodiles are released is being declared a sanctuary. The government has stated that the Narmada stream provides a favorable habitat for crocodiles, but fishermen’s organisations have opposed the move, calling it a major threat to their livelihood. All these crocodiles have been rescued from other rivers and ponds and released into the backwaters of Indira Sagar Dam. Fishermen Congress said – serving death itself Fishermen Congress State President Sadashiv Bhanwariya opposed the government’s decision, saying the Chief Minister has released crocodiles and gharials, endangering thousands of fishermen in Khandwa, Harda, and Dewas districts under the Indira Sagar Dam. He said the reptile population will soon multiply across nearly one lakh hectares of water. Most displaced fishermen in the reservoir area are economically weak, using only small boats or tire tubes to fish. Bhanwariya warned that these crocodiles could prey on such fishermen daily.
