After 24 transgenders drank phenyl together following a dispute, the Indore police have decided that all transgenders living in Nandlalpura will undergo medical tests. The decision comes amid concerns over poor investigation by the SIT, which was formed four months ago but has not submitted any report or taken statements. BJP leaders also demanded further investigation into financial and other illegal activities in the camp. BJP delegation meets Police Commissioner On Thursday, a BJP delegation from Indore met Police Commissioner Santosh Singh at the Palasia office. They suggested medical tests for all transgenders living in Nandlalpura camp. The leaders also demanded verification of documents for the transgenders and an investigation into alleged money laundering and Malegaon connections involving Seema and Payal Guru. They criticised the SIT for failing to conduct a proper investigation. The Police Commissioner agreed to these demands. Old dispute ignored The conflict between Kinnar Sapna Guru, Kinnar Payal, and others dates back months. On 30 May 2025, Payal and her associates broke into Sapna’s room and stole belongings. A complaint was lodged at Pandharinath police station, but TI Ajay Nair did not take statements and prepared a closure report within 20 days. Senior officers stopped the investigation, and an SIT was formed. However, in four months, the SIT did not take statements from anyone. BJP leaders Advocate Naidu and Sachin Sonkar raised concerns over this inaction. SIT members and investigation stalled The SIT was formed under Police Commissioner Santosh Singh, led by Rishikesh Meena, and included Additional DCP Anand Yadav, Sarafa ACP Hemant Chauhan, and TI Pandharinath. After the transfer of Rishikesh Meena and Anand Yadav, the SIT investigation stalled. New officers reportedly ignored the transgender group of Nandlalpura. Demands for financial and terror investigations The BJP delegation demanded that the SIT investigate alleged terror funding, conversion, and bank and call details of Seema and Payal for the past year. They claimed the eunuchs were misleading the police despite providing information directly to SIT officers. The Police Commissioner said responsibility for the investigation could be assigned to an IPS officer. Phenyl incident causes public stir The incident of 24 transgenders drinking phenyl caused a stir during the city’s festival time. BJP leaders, including MP Shankar Lalwani, MLAs Ramesh Mendola, Mahendra Hardia, Madhu Verma, Malini Gaud, and Golu Shukla, along with BJP City President Sumit Mishra, spoke to the Police Commissioner for 45 minutes. They highlighted that the behaviour of transgenders disrupted public peace and attempted to spoil the city’s festive atmosphere. Medical tests, registration, and safety concerns The delegation also demanded medical tests, registration, and document verification for all transgenders in camps. They claimed that transgenders were being burned with hot rods and were at risk of HIV infection. They also raised concerns about the collection of ‘neg’ (traditional gift/payments), claiming some groups extorted money from families during house or shop inaugurations and auspicious occasions. The BJP leaders urged that these practices should be stopped.
