You just threw the box of the parcel you just opened into the trash. But what if that box becomes a way to reach your bank account? This certainly sounds strange, but according to cyber experts, that small sticker pasted on Amazon and Flipkart parcels, which we never even look at closely, has become a goldmine for fraudsters. Just imagine, every time you order online, what all is printed on the label attached to the delivery box. It contains your name, phone number, full address, email ID, and sometimes even what you bought. As soon as the packet is opened, this information seems useless, so people thoughtlessly throw the box into the dustbin. This is where the real story begins. Thieves pick up parcel boxes from garbage dumps or scrap dealers and note down the information printed on them. After this, they call, posing as representatives of Amazon, Flipkart, or any delivery company. Since they have your name, address, and information about recent purchases, the conversation seems legitimate, and trust is quickly established. Following this, you are asked to fill out a feedback survey, lured by cashback, loyalty rewards, or discounts on your next purchase. The game begins as soon as you click on the link sent via SMS, WhatsApp, or email. This link leads to a fake website, where bank details, card numbers, or OTPs are requested. Sometimes, a malicious software gets installed on the phone, which steals passwords and banking details, directly siphoning money from the account. The most shocking thing is that this entire fraud starts from a place that we consider trash and forget about. But as online shopping increases, the methods of fraudsters are also becoming newer and more cunning. However, a small habit of erasing the label before throwing away the box can save you from becoming the next victim of this new type of fraud. So, what is the way to prevent such fraud? The answer is as simple as the problem seems difficult. Before throwing away the box, tear, cut, or scratch off the shipping label so that no one can read the information written on it. Sensitive information can also be hidden with an identity protection roller stamp. Additionally, if someone on a call claims to be a representative of an online shopping company and asks you to install an app, click on an unknown link, or share OTP or bank details, be vigilant. Companies like Amazon and Flipkart usually do not make such demands. To verify the truth of any offer or cashback message, check on the company’s official app. Post navigation Pakistan raises petrol by PKR 5.44, diesel by PKR 31.05:Petrol at PKR 316.15; high-speed diesel at PKR 354.35 per litre, new prices effective from 18 July HDFC Bank’s profit increased by 5% to ₹19,060 crore:Net Interest Income increased by 6.7%; bank’s results were lower than experts’ estimates
