The Indore Bench of the Madhya Pradesh High Court has directed a comprehensive inspection of all hospitals in the city, focusing on fire safety clearances (Fire NOC) and other mandatory regulatory compliances. The court has also issued notices to the Indore Municipal Corporation and the Health Department, instructing them to ensure that all private hospitals are operating within legal and safety norms. High Court’s directive A division bench comprising Justice Vivek Rusia and Justice Vinod Kumar Dwivedi issued the order on Monday while hearing a public interest litigation (PIL). The court directed the Chief Medical and Health Officer (CMHO) to conduct inspections and submit a detailed report on the compliance status of all hospitals. Petition alleged fake documents and illegal operation The petition was filed by Charchit Shastri, who alleged that Aviral Hospital, located on Hawa Bangla Road in Indore, had obtained registration through forged documents and was being operated illegally in a non-approved building. The petitioner further claimed that such irregularities posed a serious risk to patients’ safety and called for strict legal action against the hospital management. Court treats case as public interest litigation Considering the seriousness of the matter, the High Court decided to treat the case as a Public Interest Litigation (PIL). The bench also directed authorities to seal the illegally operating hospital immediately and ensure that all admitted patients are safely shifted to nearby government or private hospitals. The CMHO and civic authorities are required to submit a detailed compliance and inspection report before the court in the next hearing. The High Court emphasized that no hospital should be allowed to operate without mandatory clearances, including Fire NOC, building safety approval, and valid registration.
