The police have arrested Sevanti Bai (28) for murdering her husband, Raju Dhurve (32), in Rohna village of Narmadapuram district. The woman allegedly slit her husband’s throat at around 4 am on Tuesday, October 7, and disposed of his body in a field about 20 metres from their house. At the time of the incident, their five children were sleeping in the house. After her arrest, Sevanti Bai told the police that her husband frequently beat her and their children while under the influence of alcohol. She stated that she was fed up with the daily harassment, which ultimately led her to commit the murder. Police confirmed that Sevanti Bai used a sickle to slit her husband’s throat. She then dragged his body to a nearby field and cleaned the blood from the house to avoid suspicion. Around 8 am, she left for her maternal home in Sirali village of Harda district, taking her five children with her. Victim’s background and family life Raju Dhurve, a resident of Sirali in Harda district, had been working as a labourer on Sudhir Kumar Chauhan’s farm in Rohna village for the past month. He was living with his wife and children in a makeshift house built on the farm. Sevanti Bai revealed that she and Raju had a love marriage seven years ago. The couple had five children, three daughters followed by two sons. The youngest child is two months old. Abuse of children and family tensions Sevanti Bai alleged that her husband’s alcohol addiction contributed to repeated acts of domestic violence. He reportedly assaulted the couple’s two-year-old son, asking why he was not born before the daughters, and expressed resentment about the number of children. Both daughters and the two sons faced beatings, with the violence continuing up to the night before the murder. The accused claimed that the pattern of abuse and harassment drove her to the extreme action, believing she had no other way to protect herself and her children from further violence. Police investigation underway The Dehat police station in charge, Saurabh Pandey, confirmed that the investigation is ongoing. Authorities are examining the circumstances surrounding the murder and the reported abuse, while Sevanti Bai remains in custody pending further legal proceedings.
