A man allegedly mishandled the body of a woman at a local hospital in Burhanpur district. The incident, which occurred in April 2024, was captured on CCTV and has only now led to police action. The case took place at Khaknar Community Health Center (CHC) on the morning of April 18, 2024, between 6:45 AM and 7:05 AM. According to officials, a man approached a stretcher where the deceased woman’s body was placed, looked around, and then allegedly molested the body. He then dragged the body a short distance before returning it to the stretcher. CCTV footage from the CHC post-mortem room clearly captures the incident. The suspect can be seen first checking his surroundings before committing the act, and then leaving the body briefly before returning it to its place. Investigation launched Following a review of the CCTV footage by a technical team about a week ago, in-charge BMO Adya Dawar was informed. The matter reached Collector Harsh Singh, who ordered a committee to investigate the video and verify the authenticity of the footage, check the hospital records, and inspect the site. Based on the committee’s findings, BMO Dawar filed a written complaint with Khaknar police, providing the CCTV footage as evidence. The police registered a case on Tuesday at 11:49 PM. Identifying the suspect The police said that since the video was old, identifying the accused was initially difficult. Hospital records were reviewed, including patient admissions, attendant logs, and visitor records. Investigation confirmed that the suspect had entered the hospital accompanied by a patient. By cross-referencing the hospital’s CCTV, the police were able to identify the man allegedly involved in the incident. Police statement According to Khaknar Station Officer Abhishek Jadhav, ‘The suspect is currently in custody for questioning. Further investigation is underway to determine the circumstances and whether additional charges should be filed’.
