mp’s-trainee-cops-to-be-sensitised-about-transgender-rights:revised-curriculum-includes-chapters-on-rights-of-specially-abled,-senior-citizens,-women-kids-too

For the first time in Madhya Pradesh, the trainee police personnel will study subjects related to transgender rights, child protection, women’s rights, senior citizens, and specially-abled people. The revised curriculum, introduced after a 14-year gap since 2011, reflects the evolving demands of modern policing and societal expectations, the senior police officials of the state informed. Transgender rights to be in focus for the first time The officials at the MP Police Headquarters (PHQ) told Bhaskar English that trainees will now be taught about transgender rights and the challenges faced by the community. This marks a historic inclusion, aimed at ensuring sensitivity, respect, and better handling of cases involving transgender individuals. As per the PHQ officials, all the trainee police officers, and even the personnel at lower ranks will learn how to address crimes against them while recognising their legal rights and social identity. Inclusion of issues related to specially-abled, senior citizens The officials went on to inform that in addition to transgender, women, and child rights, the new curriculum introduces modules on the rights of people with disabilities and senior citizens. The cops undergoing training will be duly guided on how to handle complaints sensitively, and the importance of respect and inclusivity when dealing with vulnerable groups. Women and child protection emphasised in the curriculum too Given the high incidence of crimes against women and children in Madhya Pradesh, the revised training programme places strong emphasis on their protection. Officers will be trained on the rights of these vulnerable groups, the limitations of police procedures, and the nuances of changing crime patterns, particularly those involving internet and social media. Senior police officials said that special sessions will cover evidence collection, investigation techniques, and methods to improve conviction rates by ensuring no crucial facts are overlooked.
