The Director General of Police (DGP) of Madhya Pradesh, Kailash Makwana chaired an extensive review meeting on Tuesday at the newly built conference hall at the MP Police Headquarters (PHQ) in Bhopal. The session was attended by all Zonal IGs, DIGs, SPs and heads of various branches. The agenda covered law and order, crime control, staff management and administrative reforms. This was the first detailed in-person review meeting in a long time, raising expectations of improved strategies and coordinated policymaking, according to the PHQ officials. Emphasis laid on modern policing, accountability Addressing the meeting, DGP Makwana stressed the need for continuous improvement and upgradation in the police force. He said law and order should not be limited to crime control alone, but must also ensure peace, trust and security in society. He directed officers to maintain full alertness during VVIP events, take immediate and impartial action in sensitive cases, and intensify operations against cybercrime, narcotics networks and Naxal activities through targeted strategies. He further instructed that “good work must be recognised, and officers and staff who perform exceptionally should be rewarded promptly.” Recruitment, staff audit and preparedness for the future In the meeting, the state’s top cop confirmed that the recruitment process for 8,500 vacant posts has already begun. He underlined the importance of a swift staff audit to ensure efficient use of manpower and directed timely staff rotation. “Stress management and the micro-beat system will also be implemented to enhance efficiency and maintain mental balance among personnel,” he said. The DGP then underscored early preparations for large religious gatherings like Simhastha 2028, focusing on crowd management, security and traffic control. Strengthening digital policing platforms Thereafter, the state police chief issued directives to make Dial-112, CCTNS (Crime and Criminal Tracking Network Systems), and the public grievance portal more responsive and citizen-friendly. He stressed prompt and sensitive handling of complaints and strict compliance with directives of the High Court and Supreme Court. He said discipline, professionalism and sensitivity should form the foundation of policing. “At the police station level, officers must show patience and empathy while acting swiftly, so that people see the humane face of the police,” he said towards the conclusion of the meeting.
