aiims-bhopal-doctor-coins-innovative-dental-implant:to-prove-useful-for-diabetic,-weak-bone-patients;-patent-granted-for-new-design

The All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS), Bhopal, has marked another milestone in medical innovation with the development of a groundbreaking dental implant, the hospital authorities reported on Monday. Dr Anshul Rai, a Maxillofacial Surgeon from the Department of Dentistry at the institute, has recently been granted a patent under the Intellectual Property Rights (IPR) framework of the Government of India. Dr Rai, who has been performing dental implant surgeries since 2005, created this design based on his extensive clinical experience, the authorities added. The implant is specifically suited for patients with weak bone density and diabetes, who often face significant complications with conventional implant systems. Less pain, faster recovery The new implant, according to the hospital authorities, is designed to minimise patient discomfort. Unlike traditional systems, it requires minimal drilling, which results in reduced pain, less swelling, and minimal use of medicines after surgery. A trademark application for the implant has also been filed and is expected to be approved soon. One of its most notable advantages is the improvement of the Contact Osteogenesis process. In this natural process, osteoblast cells create new bone around the implant. The innovative design enables deeper penetration of these cells into the bone, ensuring a stronger and more stable fusion between the implant and the bone structure. Linked to Atmanirbhar Bharat initiative Dr Madhabananda Kar, Executive Director CEO of AIIMS Bhopal, congratulated Dr Rai on the achievement. He said that, with the support of the Government of India, the innovation is being aligned with the ‘Atmanirbhar Bharat Startup: Make in India’ initiative. Production of the implant is expected to begin shortly, ensuring its availability to citizens at an affordable price.
