A 23-year-old construction worker from Kamatara town in Harda district sustained life-threatening injuries when a metal rod pierced his right chest following a fall at a construction site. After initial treatment at local hospitals, he was referred to AIIMS Bhopal in a critical condition, the hospital authorities said on Friday, adding that the surgery at the institute gave him a new lease of life. ‘Code Trauma’ activated for emergency surgery Upon arrival, the patient was placed on a ventilator. The doctors at the institute immediately activated ‘Code Trauma’ to prepare the operating theatre and blood bank for an emergency procedure. 90-minute operation saves life In a highly complex 90-minute surgery, the surgeons opened the patient’s right chest, carefully removed the metal rod, and repaired injuries to his right lung. Following the operation, he was shifted to the ICU for recovery and monitoring. Team which led the operation The life-saving procedure was led by Dr Amit Priyadarshi (Assistant Professor, Trauma and Emergency Department at AIIMS Bhopal), with crucial support from the Cardiothoracic and Vascular Surgery (CTVS) Department. Other key members included Dr Saurabh Trivedi, Dr Vikram Watti, Dr Abhay, Dr Akshay, Dr Nitin, and Dr Sankalp. Patient stable now, doctors confirm Doctors at the institute confirmed that the patient is now stable and is under close observation in the ICU.
