A 27-year-old man in Vidisha died after allegedly consuming poison while accusing his wife and her family of harassment. An audio recorded before the incident has surfaced in which he claims his wife threatened to implicate him in a false rape case and pressured him to convert to Islam. Police are investigating the allegations based on the family’s statements, the post-mortem report and other evidence. Akash Prajapati (27), a resident of Baisariya, was called to Civil Lines police station on July 7 following a complaint by his wife, Asma (30), alleging non-payment of maintenance. Both sides were heard at the police station. After the meeting, Akash walked out of the premises and allegedly consumed poison. He died during treatment at the district hospital on July 9. Audio surfaces before death In the audio, Akash allegedly says Asma was mentally torturing him. He claims she came to his house at 6 am, banged on the door and threatened to file rape cases against everyone. He alleges she demanded ₹10 lakh, wanted the house transferred in her name and had taken away his Activa scooter. He also says police were refusing to register his complaint despite his repeated visits to the Civil Lines police station. Claiming he had already been sent to jail multiple times under preventive action, he alleges both his wife and the police were mentally harassing him. ‘I have no option but to die’ In the recording, Akash says he is consuming poison outside the police station. He names his wife Asma Khan, her son Aamir Khan, brothers Shahid Khan, Shah Rukh Khan and Shadik Khan, Chanda Khan, father Liaqat Khan and mother Shayara Khan, alleging they had been harassing him. He further claims they were forcing him to convert to Islam, demanding ₹10 lakh and threatening to file rape cases against him and even his friends if he refused. He says he had no option left except to die. Father alleges financial harassment Akash’s father, Jagdish Prajapati, alleged that Asma had been pressuring his son for money since their marriage. He claimed Akash’s truck and even his house had to be sold because of the financial demands. Civil Lines police station in-charge Rajpal Singh Jadaun said police have not yet received the call recording. He said further action will be taken after the investigation.
