A special MP-MLA court in Gwalior has issued an arrest warrant against Madhya Pradesh Congress president Jitu Patwari in connection with allegations he made during the 2024 Lok Sabha elections against BSP candidate Devashish Jarariya, accusing him of collusion and financial dealings with the BJP. The court directed the Bhind Superintendent of Police to ensure Patwari’s appearance at the next hearing under all circumstances. During the hearing, the court also made strong remarks about the functioning of the police. It observed, “When Jitu Patwari’s statements and political activities are visible everywhere, why is the police unable to trace him?” The next hearing in the case has been fixed for July 27. Serious allegations made in election rally The case dates back to April 27, 2024. During the Lok Sabha election campaign, Jitu Patwari was on a visit to Bhind district. He had addressed an election rally in Umri town in support of Congress candidate Phool Singh Baraiya from the Bhind-Datia Lok Sabha constituency. During the meeting, Patwari allegedly accused Devashish Jarariya, who had quit Congress and joined the BSP before contesting from Bhind-Datia, of engaging in financial transactions and maintaining links with the BJP without presenting any evidence. He is also accused of using objectionable language during the speech, which prompted Jarariya to raise objections. FIR was registered after complaint Based on Devashish Jarariya’s complaint, an FIR was registered against Jitu Patwari at Umri police station in Bhind on May 4, 2024. In the same case, the court had issued a notice asking him to appear on January 16, 2026, but he failed to attend the proceedings. Court’s rebuke on police’s argument During the hearing, police informed the court that Patwari could not be traced. The court expressed displeasure, observing that if he was continuously visible in the media and attending public events, it was difficult to understand how the police had failed to locate him. The court subsequently directed the Bhind SP to ensure Patwari’s presence at the next hearing scheduled for July 27. This controversial statement is recorded in the FIR According to the FIR registered at Umri police station, Devashish Jarariya’s election agent had submitted a video CD of the election rally along with the complaint. After examining the footage, police noted in the FIR that Patwari had allegedly stated during the rally that “he (Devashish Jarariya) has brought money from the BJP” and accused him of having links with the ruling party. The FIR further states that Patwari allegedly remarked that “a vote cast there is effectively a vote for the BJP” and appealed to voters not to support the BSP candidate. The complainant has alleged that Patwari levelled serious accusations without any factual basis and used insulting language during the speech.
