The Meghalaya High Court has upheld the bail granted to Sonam Raghuvanshi, the prime accused in the high-profile Raja Raghuvanshi murder case, providing her significant relief. While refusing to cancel her bail, the court directed Sonam to continue complying with all the conditions imposed at the time of her release. The decision has drawn strong objections from Raja Raghuvanshi’s family, who have repeatedly opposed her release. Police had sought cancellation of bail Raja Raghuvanshi, a transport businessman from Indore, was allegedly murdered by his wife, Sonam Raghuvanshi, in conspiracy with others. Shillong Police arrested Sonam along with the other accused during the investigation. Sonam was granted bail by the trial court in April 2026 and has been out on bail since then. Challenging the order, Shillong Police approached the High Court seeking cancellation of her bail. After hearing arguments from both sides, the High Court had reserved its verdict before delivering its decision on Monday, allowing Sonam’s bail to continue. Victim’s family voices concern Raja Raghuvanshi’s family expressed disappointment over the High Court’s decision. Earlier, Raja’s brother Vipin Raghuvanshi had said that Sonam’s release posed a threat to the family. The family has also demanded a CBI investigation into the case. Sonam earlier denied fleeing to Nepal In an earlier interview with a local television channel in Shillong, Sonam denied reports that she had fled to Nepal after being released on bail. She said false information was being circulated about her and appealed to the public not to believe rumours. Family had demanded CBI probe Following Sonam’s release on conditional bail, Vipin Raghuvanshi had alleged that she had escaped to Nepal and renewed the family’s demand for a CBI investigation into the case. Bail granted subject to four conditions While granting bail in April, the Shillong High Court imposed four conditions on Sonam: The High Court has now ruled that Sonam’s bail will continue, subject to strict compliance with these conditions.
