A video showing a van (Tata Magic) being blown up during a Muharram procession in Badnagar, near Ujjain, has surfaced online. The incident reportedly took place on the night of 23 June during a procession that began from Adan Mohalla and drew a large crowd. During the procession, a crane lifted the van about 40 feet into the air, with two youths standing on it and waving red flags. The van, which had the words ‘Le phir aa gaye’ (Here We Are Again) written on it, was then exploded. Police said the matter is under investigation and action will be taken by Thursday evening. After the video went viral, Swami Shivanand Giri, a saint from Haridwar, objected to it. He wrote on social media that it seems as if a message is being conveyed that ‘we will blow up the infidels’ cars in this manner.’ Ritesh Maheshwari of Hindu Jagran Manch said that during the Muharram procession, a van was hung on a large crane, on which several objectionable posters were put up. He said that the entire Hindu society demands that the district administration clarify whether such an activity was permitted or not.
