A jewellery fraud case in Gwalior is growing bigger, with more victims coming forward against a father-son duo who allegedly cheated traders, farmers and local residents of crores of rupees by winning their trust. The duo ran Vaishno Jewellers in Kushwah Market (DD Nagar). The first FIR was filed on 4 June by property dealer Maan Singh Gurjar, who alleged that they cheated him of gold worth ₹80 lakh. The accused were arrested in Meerut on 6 June, and police recovered 971 grams of gold jewellery worth ₹1.5 crore from them. Later, three farmers, Anoop, Dinesh and Dharmendra Gurjar, also lodged complaints. As news of the fraud spread, 10 more people reached Maharajpura police station on 8 June to file complaints. The number of victims has now crossed 14. Police are investigating each complaint and registering FIRs. So far, the probe has found that the accused allegedly cheated people of jewellery worth around ₹1.5 crore and cash worth nearly ₹1 crore. Accused planned escape after fraud During interrogation, the accused confessed that they had sold their house. They were gradually preparing to wind up their business. They had vacated the shop. They were secretly going to shift to Meerut after closing the business. They confessed to extorting gold and money in the name of hallmarking, polishing, and pawning. Both had estimated that no one would be able to find them easily after fleeing from Gwalior. After spending a few years in Meerut, they would shift to another state. Trapped in the name of hallmark, polish and mortgage Dharmveer Singh Gurjar, a resident of Maharajpura, has filed a complaint at the police station along with other victims, which exposes the modus operandi of these fraudsters. Dharmveer had given two and a half tola old gold and 65 thousand rupees cash to Sachin Soni for making a new chain. On May 28, when they arrived to collect the chain, Sachin said, The jewellery is yet to be hallmarked. Come back in a while. After this, he locked the shop and fled from the city. Executed a multi-crore scam by winning trust The arrested jeweller father-son duo used to live as friendly people in the area. In such a situation, no one suspected their intentions. Taking advantage of this, they first built credibility in the market. They collected gold worth lakhs and crores from people (in the name of loan/pledge/making charges). When a large amount of cash and gold accumulated with them, they packed up their shop and fled to Meerut.
