A Class 12 CBSE student broke down in tears during a press conference of NSUI’s ‘Chhatron Ki Goonj’ (Voice of Students) campaign in Bhopal. The student said he had scored 95.8% marks in Class 10 and had topped his school. Despite consistently performing well academically, the CBSE Class 12 results declared on 13 May came as a major shock. Lakshya Mishra, a student from Panna district, alleged that CBSE officials made serious mistakes during the evaluation process. “My future has been ruined,” he said. Lakshya displayed copies of his Hindi answer sheet and pointed out several errors in assessment. According to the official marking scheme, he claimed he should have received 17 additional marks. Marks not given even after writing correct answer Lakshya shared his ordeal in the presence of Congress MP Imran Masood. He alleged that in Chemistry, despite giving the correct answer to Part B of Multiple Choice Question No. 6, he was not awarded any marks. He said the examiner failed to evaluate his complete response. While narrating his experience, Lakshya became emotional and broke down in tears. Congress MP Imran Masood from Saharanpur, Uttar Pradesh, consoled the student. Listening to the students’ grievances, Masood also became emotional. He attacked both the CBSE and the government, claiming that 89 examination papers had been leaked in the past 10 years, affecting the future of millions of young people. Family and student in tension for one and a half months Lakshya said the result and the subsequent process had severely affected him mentally. He claimed he had been under deep depression for the past one-and-a-half months. His family is also worried, and his parents fear he may take an extreme step. Lakshya alleged that there were errors in the evaluation of several subjects in his Class 12 results. He sought re-evaluation for 15 Hindi questions (around 17 marks), three Chemistry questions (four marks), two Physics questions (one mark), and one Mathematics question (one mark). Following re-evaluation, only one mark was added in Mathematics, which, according to him, proved that discrepancies existed in the evaluation process. Lakshya said – I was told that nothing can be done now Lakshya further claimed that in Chemistry Question 6 (MCQ), his answer (Option B) matched the official marking scheme, yet he was still awarded zero marks. He also alleged that his marks in Hindi were not increased despite submitting fact-based objections.
