Anger has erupted among residents of Jamuniya village in Majhouli block of Jabalpur district over the alleged illegal liquor trade operating in the area. Fed up with the deteriorating social environment and the impact on the younger generation, a large number of women united and staged a protest outside the local police station. They submitted a memorandum to the Station House Officer, demanding immediate action against those involved. Villagers alleged that illegal liquor has been manufactured and sold openly in the village for a long time. They claimed the activity is damaging the social fabric of the community, with many families facing financial hardship, domestic violence and mental harassment as a result. New generation badly stuck in the quagmire of addiction Expressing particular concern, the women said the illegal liquor business is pushing the village’s younger generation deeper into substance abuse. They said that while women gather at local spots for tea, underage boys in the village have begun consuming alcohol there, a situation they can no longer tolerate. Raising slogans such as “Drug-Free Village, Safe Society”, the protesters urged authorities to take strict legal action against the liquor mafia and increase police patrolling in the area. To launch aggressive agitation if ban not imposed The women also warned the administration that if the illegal trade is not completely stopped soon, they will be forced to launch a large-scale public agitation and take their protest to the streets. Meanwhile, acknowledging the seriousness of the matter, the Station House Officer assured villagers of a fair investigation. He said police surveillance in the area would be intensified and those found responsible would face strict action.
