The long-pending Madhya Pradesh Public Service Commission (MPPSC) State Service Main Examination 2025, which had been caught in a legal dispute for nearly 18 months, has finally been cleared to move forward. The Madhya Pradesh High Court lifted its interim stay order issued on March 25, 2025, and allowed the commission to conduct the main examination. However, constitutional issues related to reservation, merit and migration rules will continue to be heard separately. The matter was listed before a division bench comprising Acting Chief Justice Vivek Rusia and Justice Pradeep Mittal on Thursday. As the case did not come up for hearing until late evening, the petitioners themselves requested the court to remove the stay on the main examination in view of the future of thousands of candidates and hear the remaining legal issues separately. The petitions challenged the non-disclosure of category-wise cut-off marks in the preliminary examination, the failure to adjust meritorious reserved-category candidates against unreserved posts, and the constitutional validity of migration rules for candidates who availed age-relaxation benefits. It was on these grounds that the High Court had imposed an interim stay on the main examination on March 25, 2025. Accepting the petitioners’ request on Thursday, the division bench vacated its stay order and permitted MPPSC to proceed with the main examination process. However, the core legal questions relating to reservation, merit and migration remain under consideration. The next hearing has been scheduled for July 17, 2026.
