According to passengers, the entire train was evacuated within 15 minutes, and the situation briefly turned chaotic, with reports of a stampede-like rush. However, railway staff quickly reached the spot, reassured passengers that the situation was under control, and helped restore calm. The incident took place at Luni-Reetha station in Ratlam district of Madhya Pradesh on Thursday morning around 9:45 am. The train later reached Sawai Madhopur at around 2:30 pm. A Bhaskar reporter later travelled on the train and spoke to passengers about the incident.
