Panic broke out after smoke was seen rising from the wheels of a general coach on the Ranthambore Express near Luni-Richa railway station in Ratlam district on Thursday morning. The train, which was travelling from Indore to Jodhpur, came to an unscheduled halt around 9:45 a.m. after the loco pilot applied emergency brakes. As soon as the train stopped, passengers, fearing a fire, hurriedly got off with their belongings and jumped onto the railway tracks. Rumours of fire spark chaos Witnesses said someone raised an alarm about a possible fire after noticing smoke from the coach wheels, causing panic among passengers. Many travellers evacuated the coach in haste and gathered between the tracks. At the time, another train was standing on an adjacent line, leading to a potentially dangerous situation as passengers crowded the area between the two trains. Videos from the scene showed people rushing out of the coaches in confusion. Railway staff bring situation under control Railway personnel quickly reached the spot with fire extinguishers and managed to control the situation. Officials later stated that the train resumed its journey after safety checks were completed. Luni-Richa station falls under the Kota Railway Division of the Indian Railways. Incident recalls recent panic during Morena train mishap The episode comes shortly after a train accident in Morena, where rumours of a fire prompted passengers to jump onto the tracks, resulting in four people being struck and killed by another train. Similar fire incident reported on the same route earlier A similar emergency occurred on May 17, when a fire broke out in the B-1 air-conditioned coach of the Thiruvananthapuram–Delhi Rajdhani Express near the Luni-Richa–Vikramgarh section in Ratlam district. Railway staff safely evacuated all passengers within about 15 minutes, disconnected the train’s power supply, and detached the affected coaches before allowing operations to continue.
