bhopal-gears-up-for-second-global-investors-summit:january-summit-aims-to-beat-previous-investment-proposals

The Madhya Pradesh government is preparing to host the second edition of the Global Investors Summit (GIS) in Bhopal, with the event tentatively scheduled for January 2027. According to sources, officials expect the summit to attract investment proposals exceeding those received during the previous edition, which garnered commitments worth ₹30.77 lakh crore. The Industries Department and the Madhya Pradesh Industrial Development Corporation Limited (MPIDC) have already begun preliminary planning. Prime Minister Narendra Modi, who inaugurated the first summit in February 2025, is also expected to be invited for the upcoming event. Multiple venues under consideration The inaugural GIS was held at the Indira Gandhi Rashtriya Manav Sangrahalaya, with the city undergoing extensive beautification ahead of the event. For the proposed 2027 summit, officials have inspected several potential venues, including Lal Parade Ground, the Neelbad-Ratibad area near the Judicial Academy, and the previous venue at the Indira Gandhi Rashtriya Manav Sangrahalaya. The final location will depend on the anticipated number of participating industrialists and investors. Authorities focus on improving event management The government is also working to address shortcomings identified during the previous summit. During a recent high-level review meeting, Additional Chief Secretary of the Panchayat and Rural Development Department, Deepali Rastogi, highlighted technical glitches and sound-related issues experienced at the earlier event. Officials are now aiming to ensure smoother logistics and better execution. New industrial hub may strengthen investment push As part of its strategy to attract fresh investments, MPIDC is developing a 172-acre multi-product industrial zone near Satgarhi on Kolar Road in Bhopal. The proposed industrial park is expected to promote sectors such as textiles, food processing, and ready-made garments, offering additional opportunities for investors participating in the summit. Adani group made the largest commitment at previous summit The 2025 Global Investors Summit, along with associated Regional Investors Summits, generated investment proposals worth ₹30.77 lakh crore for Madhya Pradesh. Among them, the largest single proposal came from the Adani Group, with an announced investment commitment of ₹1.10 lakh crore. Officials believe the next edition of the summit could surpass those figures. Beautification expenditure under scrutiny Preparations for the previous GIS have also come under investigation over allegations related to beautification works carried out across Bhopal. Before the summit, the Municipal Corporation reportedly spent around ₹1.73 crore installing fountains at 19 locations as part of city enhancement efforts. However, an inquiry by the Urban Administration Department’s committee reportedly found discrepancies between official records and physical inspections. Investigators allegedly found that several expensive components—including gunmetal valves, flower jet nozzles, connectors, and LED lights—were missing from sites and had instead been replaced with ordinary PVC fittings. In one case, a fountain listed in records near Taj Hotel could not be located. Municipal officials reportedly claimed it had been relocated but were unable to specify its new location. At other sites, they cited theft of equipment but could not produce supporting documentation. The inquiry, initiated after complaints reached the Lokayukta, is examining the discrepancies between recorded expenditures and conditions found on the ground.
