A major theft was reported at the Patan Agricultural Produce Market in Jabalpur, where miscreants allegedly stole around 80 quintals of green gram (moong) worth approximately ₹4.5 lakh. The accused are believed to have driven a truck loaded with the crop out of the market, transferred the produce to another vehicle, and then returned the empty truck to its original parking spot. The incident is believed to have taken place during the night of June 15–16. Trader had purchased 134 bags of Moong from farmers According to grain trader Vikas Agrawal, a resident of Patan, he had purchased 134 bags of moong—equivalent to nearly 80 quintals—from local farmers. For security reasons, the loaded truck was parked inside the mandi premises overnight, with plans to transport the produce to Jabalpur the following morning. However, when the trader arrived at the market on June 16, he found the truck parked in its designated place but completely empty. Despite searching the premises, the missing produce could not be located. CCTV footage shows suspects taking truck out Following the complaint, police examined CCTV footage from the mandi and nearby areas. The recordings reportedly show two to three individuals driving the truck out of the market between 1 a.m. and 2 a.m. Investigators suspect the accused unloaded the grain into another vehicle outside the premises before returning the empty truck to avoid immediate detection. Mandi officials say guards were on duty Mandi Secretary Phool Singh stated that security personnel are deployed round the clock at the agricultural market and that guards were present on the night of the incident. According to their statements, they were patrolling outside the premises when the thieves allegedly entered the mandi and carried out the theft. Police register case, investigation underway Patan Police Station in-charge G.S. Rajput said officers are attempting to identify the suspects using CCTV footage and other evidence. A case has been registered against unidentified persons, and an investigation is underway. Police said they expect to identify and arrest the accused soon. First such theft reported at the market Trader Vikas Agrawal said this is the first incident of its kind at the Patan Agricultural Produce Market. He noted that hundreds of vehicles enter and leave the mandi every day, but no similar theft involving an entire truckload of produce had ever been reported before.
