A criminal case has been registered in Rajasthan against nearly 100 people, including two Station House Officers (SHOs) from Madhya Pradesh, in connection with an alleged anti-drug operation conducted in Ghatakhedi village under Dag police station limits in Jhalawar district in January 2026. Acting on an order issued by the Chaumahla Court on June 13, Dag Police Station registered an FIR on June 15 against Agar Kotwali SHO Shashi Upadhyay, Barod SHO Roop Singh, Sub-Inspector Rakhi Gurjar, Assistant Sub-Inspector Ajay Jat, and about 100 known and unknown persons under various sections of the law. Police said additional accused could be identified during the investigation. Police had claimed to bust a drug manufacturing unit On January 21, 2026, Agar police arrested a man identified as Faizan with 330 grams of MD drugs. During interrogation, he allegedly told investigators that he had procured the narcotics from Shahir, Munawwar, and Tahir of Ghatakhedi village. According to the Superintendent of Police Vinod Singh, a raid involving more than 80 police personnel was carried out on January 28 based on Faizan’s disclosure. Officers claimed to have recovered a large quantity of narcotic substances and materials used for manufacturing drugs. Two brothers, Shahir Khan and Munawwar alias Raja, were arrested during the operation. Five key questions raised about the operation Several aspects of the raid later came under scrutiny: Family consistently alleged the operation was fake From the outset, Hamid Khan, father of the arrested brothers, maintained that the operation had been fabricated. He alleged that Madhya Pradesh police entered his home without informing local Rajasthan authorities, misbehaved with family members, and falsely implicated his sons in an NDPS case. Court-ordered probe found missing records On February 21, 2026, Hamid Khan filed a complaint before the Chaumahla Court, which directed Jhalawar Superintendent of Police Amit to conduct an inquiry. The investigation was assigned to Additional Superintendent of Police Bhagchandra Meena, who travelled to Agar and recorded statements from SHO Shashi Upadhyay and several other officers involved in the raid. According to the inquiry report, multiple records relating to the search, arrests, and seizures could not be traced. FIR registered following inquiry findings After examining the investigation report and supporting evidence, the court directed that an FIR be registered. The case names Shashi Upadhyay, Roop Singh Rajput, SI Rakhi Gurjar, ASI Ajay Jat, Rahul Vishwakarma, police personnel Shubham, and nearly 100 known and unknown individuals. More accused may be identified With the FIR now registered, investigators will examine the allegations and submit their findings to the court. Officials indicated that additional names could emerge during the investigation and that further legal provisions may be added depending on the evidence collected.
