Police arrested Rafiq alias Kuldi Khan in Gwalior on Thursday for allegedly committing an obscene act with a cow. Following his arrest, police took him to the crime scene and questioned him about the incident. A case has been registered against the accused, who is scheduled to be produced before a court on Friday. The incident was reported from the Hathiyapur-Jaganapura area under the Gwalior police station limits. Acting on a complaint lodged by local cow protection activists, police registered a case under relevant provisions of the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals Act. CCTV footage of the incident also surfaced and reportedly helped police identify and apprehend the accused. According to police, at around 1 am on the intervening night of June 10 and 11, Rafiq alias Kuldi Khan, a local resident, was allegedly seen engaging in an inappropriate act with a cow in a secluded area. Nimesh Singh Tomar, a resident of Mangleshwar Road in Ghasmandi and a member of a cow protection group, reportedly noticed the incident and raised an alarm, after which the accused fled the spot. Complainants allege threats from accused’s mother The complainants alleged that after the incident, members of the cow protection group went to the accused’s residence. They claimed that instead of reprimanding her son, the accused’s mother threatened to implicate them in a false case. Subsequently, the complainants approached the police station with CCTV footage and lodged a formal complaint. They alleged that the accused’s actions amounted to animal cruelty and also hurt their religious sentiments. Police say investigation is underway Gwalior police station in-charge Prashant Sharma said the accused had been arrested in connection with the alleged act involving the cow. He added that all aspects of the case are being investigated. “The accused will be produced before the court, following which further legal proceedings will be carried out,” Sharma said.
