After winning the sole Test match against Afghanistan, the Indian cricket team appears to be in high spirits. Now, the team’s preparation is focused on the strategy to win the next match, which will be held on 13 June in Dharamshala, Himachal Pradesh. For this, the Indian and Afghanistan teams are practicing at the IS Bindra Stadium in Mohali. Both teams will depart for Dharamshala on Thursday. All players of the Indian team have arrived in Chandigarh and are continuously sweating it out in the nets. However, star all-rounder Hardik Pandya has been ruled out of the team due to injury, which has come as a blow to the team. Rohit Sharma trains in nets The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) earlier had cleared Rohit Sharma for the Afghanistan ODI series. The ‘Hitman’ appeared in Mohali and trained in the nets. Rohit had a poor IPL 2026 campaign where he managed to score 283 runs in nine matches. He also missed several matches due to a hamstring injury. Time gained due to early end of Test match The sole Test match between India and Afghanistan started on 6 June and was scheduled to run until 10 June. However, due to India’s brilliant performance, the match concluded on 8 June, 2026. India won this match by an innings and 300 runs. The players for the Test and ODI teams are different. Therefore, it was initially decided that all players would gather in Chandigarh on 10 June. After this, on 11 June, both teams will depart for Dharamshala by chartered plane. Upon reaching there, the team will focus on match preparations. Due to the Test match ending early, players got an extra day. The Indian team has reached the PCA Stadium in Mohali. All-star players, including Rohit Sharma and Shubman Gill, were present on the field. However, this practice is not mandatory for everyone. The team is staying in a hotel in Chandigarh. The Indian team has also set five records in the Test match, which are as follows – 1. India’s biggest win: For the first time in Test cricket, India has defeated a team by a massive margin of an innings and 300 runs. Previously, India’s biggest win was against West Indies (an innings and 272 runs, 2018). 2. Highest score against Afghanistan: India scored 564/8 (declared) in the first innings, which is their highest team score ever in a Test match against Afghanistan. 3. Manav Suthar’s historic debut: Young spinner Manav Suthar took 6 wickets for 33 runs in the first innings of his debut match. He has joined the list of select bowlers who have taken 6 wickets in an innings of a debut Test for India. 4. Shubman Gill’s record as captain: As Test captain, Shubman Gill scored his first Test century (126 runs) and led India to their biggest historic win in terms of runs as captain. 5. KL Rahul’s comeback century: KL Rahul, batting patiently, completed another magnificent century (100 runs) in Test cricket.
