After missing out on the World Test Championship final in 2025, Shubman Gill-led Indian team will resume their hunt for the 2027 WTC final as they face Sri Lanka in a two-match series next month. The Indian team will be travelling to the island nation to face their first Test assignment down under since 2017. During their last Test series in Sri Lanka in 2017, Virat Kohli-led India whitewashed the hosts 3-0. Fresh after beating Afghanistan by an innings and 300 runs in the one-off Test, Gill’s team showcased their ruthlessness, albeit the match was not part of the WTC cycle. According to Cricbuzz, the first Test between India and Sri Lanka will be played from 15 to 19 August in Galle, while the second Test will be played from 23 to 27 August at the Sinhalese Sports Club in Colombo. India’s first red-ball tour of Sri Lanka since 2017 While neither board has confirmed the schedule of the two-match series just yet, the report claims that Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC) is working on finalising the details. Meanwhile, there could be a 3-match T20I series also added to the tour, and discussions for the same are also underway between the two boards. For the unversed, the Lanka Premier League (LPL) concludes on 9 August, which means that the proposed 3-match T20I series could be added after the conclusion of the Test series. An official announcement could be made once both boards give their green light to the schedule, along with the other stakeholders.
