A video from Bhopal’s Hamidia Hospital has sparked outrage after a post-mortem was allegedly conducted openly on the pathway leading to the mortuary inside the hospital premises. The incident raised serious questions over sensitivity and violation of rules, as patients’ relatives and other people present there watched the procedure being carried out. According to the video, doctors performed the dissection in the open without any cover or screen arrangement. The strong smell coming from the body reportedly forced many people standing nearby to move away from the area. The incident has triggered criticism over the handling of the post-mortem and the lack of privacy inside one of Bhopal’s major government hospitals. Post-mortem pictures The body was brought from Bajaria area, it was not identified Actually, the police brought the body of a person from the Bajaria police station area to Hamidia Hospital for post-mortem. His identity could not be established, but instead of taking the body from the ambulance into the mortuary, it was placed on the path leading inside. After this, two doctors openly started the post-mortem (dissection) of the body on a stretcher, without any screen or shed. Doctors’ strange argument vs. the truth of the viral video When questions were raised with the hospital administration and the forensic department regarding this matter, their arguments appeared completely false in the face of the viral video. Regarding the case, Dr. Ashish Jain, HOD of the Forensic Department at Gandhi Medical College, said – In some special cases, post-mortems are conducted in the shaded area outside the mortuary, while post-mortems following the normal procedure are done inside. Only the cleaning of bodies is done in the open area. Claims Exposed: Major Contradiction in Video and Statements A clear difference (contradiction) can be seen between the hospital administration’s claims and the on-site video footage. The HOD claimed that only body cleaning or insect removal is done outside, but the video clearly shows doctors performing the main post-mortem (dissection) directly on the stretcher. The claim was about a shaded area, whereas the body was kept in the open on the main path of the mortuary, where people were constantly moving.
